Welcome, I'm Meagan!

I'd like to help you on your journey to becoming an engineer!

My engineering journey began by attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a concentration in biomechanics.

I have seven years of experience working as a Senior Research and Development (R&D) engineer for a globally recognized, multi-billion dollar medical device company. I’ve worked in both New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering. By the time I was 25, I was leading a team of engineers for a multimillion dollar New Product Development project, promoted to Senior Engineer, and earning six figures. Engineering gave me financial freedom and I only needed to complete four years of college. Engineering jobs are always in demand and are one of the most rewarding professions you can have.

About Engineering Expectations

But, it wasn't always easy

I was not always this successful. My journey to becoming an engineer was a challenging one, often filled with doubt. Like when I received a 2 on the AP Calculus exam. There were times I wondered, do I have what it takes to be an engineer? I’m here to reassure you that yes, even someone who performed poorly on the AP Calculus exam in high school can go on to be a successful engineer. With an engineering degree, I’ve been able to:

      • Earn six figures within 3 years of graduation
      • Pay off thousands of student loan debt within 5 years of graduating college
      • Buy my dream home within a year of graduating from college and achieve financial independence
      • Travel the world interacting with physicians to obtain feedback on prototypes
      • Develop multiple medical devices that are used worldwide ranging from a device used to remove liver tumors to a brush used to take cellular samples to check for cancer

And the great news is…you can do this too – I’ll show you how!

I faced many challenges on my journey to obtaining my engineering degree. There were a lot of things I had to figure out the hard way, such as learning the importance of statistics in engineering. Unfortunately, I became aware of this after being grilled on an interview for an internship. I totally bombed it because I had no idea what they were talking about. Through perseverance, I managed to figure out how to get the internship of my dreams that led to my ideal job. I wish there was someone that I could have reached out to that had the industry knowledge. It would have been nice for someone to help me from the time I decided to pursue engineering in high school through college.

This is how Engineering Expectations was born

I will use my seven years of engineering experience to help you have a better understanding of what engineers do. I want to share my expertise and offer as much help, guidance, and motivation as I can to support you in your journey because I know how hard it is to keep moving towards your goal. Also, I wish I had someone with experience in the real world that I could rely on for advice. That is why I’ll be providing the inspiration you need to persevere through the challenges of school. Then you too, can go on to reap the benefits of this amazing career!

At Engineering Expectations, you will find information ranging from what engineers do day to day, to interview preparation to resume critiques. I will give you insight into my struggles and successes as an engineer. I will discuss what tasks engineers are responsible for during each phase of the New Product Development Process. Through this I will try to better define what engineers do as well as give you the motivation you need to make your dream of becoming an engineer a reality.
